Adult Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do is a martial art created and developed by Bruce Lee. The name translates to “The Way of the Intercepting Fist”. Our JKD program is designed to help you unlock your maximum potential physically, mentally and spiritually. Philosophy is an integral part of training in Jeet Kune Do. We are guided in our movements by the following principles:
Always Think Hit: JKD is an offensive striking art designed to intercept your opponent before they strike. All of our thoughts and movements are guided by this core principle. Always Think Hit is what we do, the following principles are how we achieve this.
Simplicity: Keep it simple! Complex movements and tasks are difficult to perform under stress.
Efficiency: Maximum performance to end a conflict as effectively and quickly as possible.
Longest Weapon to the Nearest Target: Find the easiest path to our goals utilizing our best available options. EX: Using a kick to the legs instead of the head. Your legs are your longest weapon and your opponent’s legs are the nearest target, in this example.
Core Elements of Training
Physical Fitness: Our bodies are what we use to physically express ourselves through martial movements. It is important to build and maintain a level of fitness to perform at our highest capacity. We will cover exercise routines to build strength for performance and stretching routines to develop increased flexibility and durability.
Structure and Mobility: Our fighting stance is our maximum physical potential. Activated and ready to go! We like to reference it to a sprinter’s stance right before the starting gun goes off. We will cover a variety of footwork and movement drills to help you better guide your structure through time and space against an opponent.
Striking: JKD is a striking art utilizing ALL parts of the body. We will cover a variety of drills and exercises to help you understand all the ways your body can be used to generate power and creatively express yourself as a martial artist.
Energy Manipulation: Sometimes, even our best attack is met with an obstacle. We learn how to overcome these obstacles by practicing trapping and manipulation drills, with a partner, which help to develop sensitivity and pliability in our physical selves and the ability to effectively go beyond these barriers as efficiently as we can. This transcends into our lives outside of class and the obstacles we face on a daily basis. We are learning how to solve problems through martial arts.
